An aerofoil is a shelf edge blade fitted to the front lip of each shelf in an open refrigeration cabinet. It reshapes the falling curtain of cold air so less of it spills into the aisle, which lowers the work the cabinet has to do and steadies product temperature. Aerofoils are passive: no power, no moving parts and no maintenance once fitted. How it works
Air, not electronics.
Cold air falls, and some of it escapes
An open cabinet holds product cold with a curtain of falling air. At the shelf edges that curtain turns turbulent and part of it spills into the aisle, taking the cooling with it.
The blade reshapes the edge
A profiled blade on each shelf lip smooths that turbulence, so the curtain stays coherent down the face of the cabinet instead of breaking up.
The cabinet works less
Less spill means less warm store air pulled into the case, which shows up as lower run time and a steadier product temperature.
The aisle stops being cold
The spilled air was landing in the aisle. Retailers usually notice that before they notice the meter.

Aerofoil Energy, who make the product, publish a 25 to 38 per cent reduction in cabinet energy consumption and an average aisle temperature increase of 6 degrees. Sainsbury's have publicly reported a 15 per cent reduction in energy from fridges across their estate. Those are their figures and their stores, not ours, and we quote them as such. What we will tell you about your estate is what we read at your cabinets, before and after. If the readings do not support the spend at your stores, that is a useful answer too.

About Aerofoil
Do aerofoils need power or servicing?
No. They are passive. There is nothing to wire in, nothing that moves and no maintenance schedule once they are fitted.
Can they be fitted while the store is trading?
Yes, that is normally how we do it. Installation is quick and the cabinet does not come off line, so there is no overnight shutdown and no stock relocation.
Will they fit our cabinets?
Most open case models are covered, and there are specific profiles for meat and sloped shelf formats. That is exactly what the site measure establishes, which is why we measure before anyone orders anything.
What saving will we get?
We will not put a number on your estate before measuring it. The manufacturer publishes its own figures from its own installations, and we are happy to share those, but the number that matters is the one we read at your cabinets.
Can this run across several states at once?
Yes. It is specified once and delivered as a program under one accountable team, the same as every other Nextage line.
