About LED lighting upgrades
Are there government rebates for LED lighting?
It depends on the state. The NSW commercial lighting method ended on 31 March 2026. Victoria still discounts business lighting through VEU, but indoors only where the existing lights are fluorescent. SA and the ACT run retailer schemes to 2030. Queensland, WA, Tasmania and the NT have no state certificate scheme like these.
How much energy will an LED upgrade save?
It depends on what is being replaced, the hours the store trades and the controls. We do not quote a saving percentage in advance. Where the business case needs evidence, we measure before and after at the store.
What does an LED retrofit mean?
Replacing the lamp or tube in an existing fitting with an LED one and keeping the fitting. A full upgrade replaces the fitting as well. Either way the fitting and colour schedule is set once for the fleet, so every store ends up the same.
What light level does a store need?
The National Construction Code does not set a light level for a shop floor. It caps the lighting power instead: 14 watts per square metre for a retail space under NCC 2022. The light level itself is a design matter under AS/NZS 1680, set by how each area is used.
What paperwork follows the upgrade?
The electrician issues the state's electrical certificate for each site: a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work in NSW, a Certificate of Electrical Safety in Victoria. It goes into the completion report with the photos, and a lux reading can be included where the brand standard asks for one. Our electrical certificates guide lists every state and territory.
What changes the price of an LED upgrade?
Whether the job is a lamp swap or a new fitting, the fitting type and mounting height, ceiling access, controls such as sensors and dimming, any circuit changes, and after hours work. We survey first and price per site.
Can the upgrade happen without closing the store?
Usually. Work is scheduled after hours or in sections, so the sales floor keeps trading.
