Does a food retailer need a professional pest controller?
The Food Standards Code does not require one. Clause 24 of Standard 3.2.2 requires all practicable measures to keep pests out and to eradicate them, and a scheduled program with records is how most retailers show that.
How often should a retail store have pest control?
The Food Standards Code sets no number of visits, so it depends on the store type, food handled, loading docks and history. Food retail is usually on a regular schedule through the year, with callouts in between when something is seen. Our food retail pest control guide explains what the Code does ask for.
What changes the price of a pest control program?
The number and size of stores, whether food is handled, loading docks and waste areas, how often each store is visited, bird proofing, and any audit scheme the records have to satisfy.
