Nextage supplies and installs air curtains across Australia for store entrances, cool room and freezer doors, loading docks and service windows. An air curtain blows a sheet of air across an opening that has to stay open, so cold air stays in and warm air stays out without a door. Each unit is sized to the width and height of the opening and set up on site, because a jet that does not reach the floor at the right speed and angle does little.

The problem

  • Cool room doors propped open let cold air fall out across the floor.
  • Entrance doors held open let the air conditioning out and the weather in.
  • A curtain that was never set up after fitting runs all day and barely works.

What's included

  • A measure of each opening: width, height and what passes through it
  • The unit family and size that suits that opening
  • Mounting, power and controls organised with the electrician
  • Commissioning: jet speed and angle set on site with a meter
  • Before and after photos

Public liability insurance: $20 million.

Range

Air curtain families

A dock door and a service window are different problems, so the family is chosen for the opening.

01

Entrance, unheated

Air only, for air conditioned shopfronts, mounted over the door.

02

Entrance, heated

Electric or hot water heating in the air path, for cold climate entrances.

03

Cool room doors

Higher jet speed, stepless speed control and adjustable vanes, the retail back of house workhorse.

04

Freezer openings

Higher pressure units, sometimes two with opposed jets, for sub zero doors.

05

Industrial and docks

Three phase families for roller shutters and dock doors up to about 7 m high.

06

Insect control

Built for the jet speeds NSF/ANSI 37 asks for at food premises openings.

07

Service windows

Compact units for pass throughs and small back doors.

08

Recessed

Units that sit in the ceiling void with only the grille showing.

09

Stainless and washdown

For wet, salty or food processing areas.

10

Vertical

Jamb mounted units for openings with no head height above.

Supply and install

Supplied, ordered and fitted for you.

No products to order, fixings to buy or trades to chase. One call, and it arrives fitted.

Tell us the site and roughly how many. We walk it and come back with a measured quote.

  1. We measure

A site walk sets what goes where, and how many.

  2. We order

The right product, size and quantity, delivered to site.

  3. We organise

Access, inductions and timing around your trading hours.

  4. We install and photograph

Fitted by our crews, with before and after photos when it is done.

Often fitted in the same visit

A good fit

  • Cool room and freezer doors that stay open while staff work
  • Store entrances held open in trading hours
  • Docks, roller shutters and service windows
  • One door, or the same unit across a whole fleet

Not a fit

  • An opening that can simply be kept shut with a self closing door
  • Meeting NCC J5D5 on its own: air curtains are not named in it, so ask your certifier

FAQ

About air curtains

What does an air curtain do?

It blows a sheet of air across an open doorway so cold air stays in and warm air stays out, without a door being shut. It suits openings that have to stay open while people and stock move through.

How do you size an air curtain?

To the width of the opening and the mounting height, so the jet still reaches the floor. ASHRAE 90.1 asks for at least 2.0 m/s at 150 mm above the floor with the discharge angled at least 20 degrees towards the opening.

Does an air curtain meet the NCC?

NCC J5D5 lists airlocks, self closing doors, rapid roller doors, revolving doors and the like. Air curtains are not named in it, so your certifier decides whether one is accepted.

Can one go on a freezer door?

Yes, with a higher pressure family built for sub zero openings, sometimes two units with opposed jets, and a plan for where the moisture goes.

Which brand do you fit?

The unit is chosen for the opening from the families on this page, and the quote names the model.

Doors open, cold getting out?

Tell us the store and the openings. We'll measure them and quote the units.
